AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 16 Core 4.7 GHz “Gaming” CPU Leaked

We’re only a day away from AMD’s hotly anticipated Next Horizon E3 gaming event where the company is expected to unveil its next generation 7nm based Navi RX 5700 series gaming graphics products. As it turns out, that may not be all what the company plans to unveil tomorrow. A fresh new leak from the oven of techendom has just landed squarely on our plate, courtesy of our friend over at Videocardz and it’s an absolute whopper! So let’s dig in!

AMD Prepares Monstrous New 16 Core Ryzen 3950X Gaming CPU With 4.7 GHz Turbo Clock

AMD’s monstrous Ryzen 9 3950X CPU has been allegedly leaked. Touted as the world’s first ever 16 core, 32 thread “gaming” processor, the CPU boasts a blistering 4.7Ghz Turbo clock speed. This behemoth will make use of two full 8-core Zen 2 dies which will invariably have to be hand-picked to achieve this high of a Turbo clock speed right out of the box. The package will still maintain an impressively frugal 105W TDP, which is achieved through a modest base clock speed of 3.5 GHz.

The Ryzen 9 3950X is quite extraordinary on many fronts. For one, the frugal 105W TDP makes it the most power efficient 16 core desktop CPU we’ve seen yet. Its closest competitor from Intel the i9-9960X is a 165W chip and runs at lower clock speeds.

If the specifications are accurate as leaked, at 4.7 GHz this is the highest ever clock speed we’ve seen on any Ryzen CPU to date. And that’s largely thanks to the Zen 2 CPU microarchitecture and the 7nm process technology its built on. With current generation Ryzen CPUs it would be an overclocker’s dream to even come close to 4.4 GHz and that’s with exotic liquid cooling, let alone 4.7 GHz right out of the box.

Unfortunately the leaker did not shed any light on pricing, but you can rest assured a chip this impressive is going to cost a pretty penny. We could be looking at AMD”s first $999 AM4 desktop CPU. It wouldn’t surprise us if that was the cost of getting access to an ultra high-end enthusiast class product on a mainstream socket.

Stay tuned, if this leak has any truth to it we’re going to be hearing and seeing a lot more tomorrow. In the meantime, take this leak with a grain of salt.
