Burberry has replaced its chief creative officer, marking the latest change at the top of the British luxury fashion chain.

Bradford-born Daniel Lee will take over from Italian Riccardo Tisci on Monday, Burberry said in a statement on Wednesday, overseeing all of the fashion house’s collections.

Lee will present his debut runway collection at London Fashion Week in February 2023.

The appointment marks another step in a management shake-up at the 166-year-old British brand, after Jonathan Akeroyd took over as chief executive from Marco Gobbetti in March. Julie Brown will leave as chief financial officer in April to join UK drugmaker GSK.

“Daniel is an exceptional talent with a unique understanding of today’s luxury consumer and a strong record of commercial success,” Akeroyd said. “His appointment reinforces the ambitions we have for Burberry.”

Lee was previously creative director at Italian luxury fashion house Bottega Veneta. He has worked at brands including Celine, Maison Margiela, Balenciaga and Donna Karan.

Tisci departs Burberry after almost five years, during which time the group modernised its offerings and looked to attract younger, more diverse customers. Burberry’s Spring Summer 2023 collection, presented at this month’s London Fashion Week, was his last for the fashion house.

“Riccardo has played a pivotal role in repositioning Burberry,” Akeroyd said.

Shares rose nearly 3 per cent in early London trading on Wednesday, trimming the decline for the year to just shy of 5 per cent.
