Radeon RX 5700XT Time Spy Leak Matches GeForce RTX 2070

Well, it appears that the Radeon RX 5700XT has indeed made its way into reviewers hands and is undergoing testing as you read this. The Radeon RX 5700XT is poised to take on the GeForce RTX 2070 in performance and pricing by undercutting the GeForce RTX 2070 and hitting the market for $449 while claiming to bring a bit more performance than its competitor. Up until now, we’ve only had slides from AMD to go off of for performance figures but now, thanks to the 3DMark Result Ticker and user genesis_surge we now get a glimpse at what should be the Radeon RX 5700XT can do in DX12 with 3DMark Time Spy, and it isn’t bad at all.

Before the newer GPUs launch and are properly added to the database over at Futuremark they show up as Generic VGA and often have very little actual information attached to them, this one, however, came with plenty of juicy details.  One of those details is making it very clear that it is an Advanced Micro Devices Inc. vendor meaning it’s a reference board, which the reviewers would have in hand at this point.  The other is that the core clock falls within the range that it would likely be reporting, the clock reporting is a little off sometimes depending on when it takes the reading since, for example, the RTX 2060 FE reports a 1920MHz clock which is much higher than actual.   The memory capacity of 8GB is accurate but the memory clock reporting is lower than it should be but could likely be chalked up to early detection errors by 3DMark itself.

Below are the screenshots I took of the results and drilled down to the details so that you can get a good look at them too. While writing this the benchmarker continued to report on the live ticker showing results for VR Blue Room but those results appear to have had something go wrong, but the link is here to follow over for that adventurous enough.  The graphics score of 8719 is right in line with what the GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition scores and historically the Radeon cards have trailed the Turing based RTX lineup by a good bit.  But that doesn’t always translate very well to gaming but it does show a fair bit of promise for the Radeon RX 5700 Series when it comes to their competition.

I’ve compiled this simple graph to include just the Graphics Score from some of my recent benchmarking on my test bench to see just where the above result for the Radeon RX 5700XT would land.  It is very important that you take note that the below results are with my test bench that runs a 5GHz (no AVX offset) Core i9-9900K on an EVGA Z370 Motherboard with 16GB of G.Skill Trident Z DDR4 3200CL16 while the system running the RX 5700XT was using a Core i7-8700K that appears to have been run at stock but the memory seems comparable.

So There we have it on the first results that have slipped out and while it’s not the most comprehensive set of results it is more than I expected us to catch this early on and with prelaunch drivers to boot.  This is getting exciting for those waiting to see how things shake out come July 7th.
