‘But where is she?’ The View fans express concern for Barbara Walters as Whoopi Goldberg wishes her a happy 93rd birthday – six years after her final public appearance

Barbara Walters sparked concern among The View fans as they wondered how she is doing after her 93rd birthday.

The journalist has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since she retired back in 2014 after a career spanning more than five decades.

On Monday’s episode of the ABC show, co-host Whoopi Goldberg wished the show’s creator a happy birthday.

One viewer said they ‘never hear about her’ anymore to which another replied: ‘I’m wondering the same thing, haven’t seen her since 2017 I believe’.

Barbara created The View in 1997, with the aim of showing women from different generations and walks of life discussing the issues of the day.

Through numerous line-up changes, Barbara remained as a panellist on the show until she decided to retire in 2014.

Her last public appearance was in 2016 when she attended the New York premiere of Woody Allen’s film Cafe Society.

Of The View’s original line-up of Joy Behar, Debbie Matenopoulos, Star Jones and Meredith Viera, Joy is the only one who remains on the show.

Whoopi joined the show as moderator in 2007, Sara Haines and Sonny Hostin both joined in 2016 and Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin were added as full-time members of the panel this year.

Barbara has not made any public appearances since 2016 and was noticably absent from The View’s 25th anniversary celebrations earlier this year.

To celebrate the milestone, the original hosts had a reunion at New York’s Essex House where they first auditioned.

The current hosts also celebrated the 25th anniversary with a vacation to The Bahamas.
